Kid Icarus: Pit

OCTOBER 8, 2024| ALCOHOL MARKER, INK PEN, COLORED PENCIL | 10x7 IN.

I made this after I started playing Kid Icarus: Uprising on the Nintendo 3DS. I had been curious about the game since Pit (more specifically Dark Pit) was the character I had always played when I played Super Smash Bros. After playing through the first levels, I ended up liking the game’s main character so much I wanted to draw him. I also used this as an excuse to practice incorporating colored pencils more into my marker drawings.

Process…

I went through the same process I always use when I do traditional art works. Sketch, ink, color, render. It’s the same process I use in my digital work as well. This piece was also the first time I had really focused on rendering techniques, specifically with the metallic parts of the design. Namely the bow, the gauntlets, and laurels as well as the gold accents like the leg band and the belt buckle. I had also started to change my rendering style with this piece as well. I used a technique I had seen used in 16-bit video games, where colors blend with each other by using adding extra marks where the colors touch to make a smoother blend effect.
